Paul Atreides, now Emperor Muad'Dib of the Known Universe, is a man ensnared by destiny. Twelve years after the events of Dune: Part Two, Paul Atreides' spearheading of the Fremen and his subsequent ascendancy to Emperor has unleashed a genocidal Jihad subsequent to his embracing of the Mahdi prophecy indoctrinated amongst the Fremen. Despite his Imperial authority, he is powerless to stop the lethal religious excesses of the juggernaut he has created, and clings to his power in the face of a conspiracy which aims to depose him from his autocratic authority.
