Batman: Knightfall

Bane destroys Arkham Asylum to release criminal inmates into Gotham City. Bruce Wayne operates without rest to capture the inmates. Bane uses the severe exhaustion of Wayne to attack him in the Batcave and break his spine. Wayne becomes a paraplegic and appoints Jean-Paul Valley to operate as the new Batman. Valley builds an armored suit and defeats Bane, but he becomes excessively violent. Wayne eventually repairs his physical injuries and uses force to reclaim the Batman identity from Valley.
