FEYRE ARCHERON

A nineteen-year-old huntress and the story’s protagonist. Feyre shoulders the responsibility of caring for her father and two older sisters due to a promise she made her dying mother. Her determination and dedication to her duty isolate her from others. Like most humans, she’s raised with a distrust and hatred for faeries. Forced to spend time in the faerie realm, she learns the truths behind these misconceptions and comes to understand the power of both romantic and familial love.

NESTA ARCHERON

The oldest of Feyre’s sisters. Nesta is portrayed as jealous, greedy, and cruel, often wearing a sneer on her face. She bears a strong resemblance to their mother. Nesta takes the loss of the family fortune the hardest, but behind her judgmental nature and cold exterior lies a deep love for her sisters.

ELAIN ARCHERON

The middle sister of Feyre and Nesta. Elain is kind, but not nearly as clever as Feyre or Nesta. Her gentle, generous, and joyful spirit come not from a lack of understanding, but from a steadfast belief, even in tough times, in a better, more beautiful world.

Father to Feyre, Elain, and Nesta. A former merchant who lost the family fortune, he is downtrodden and dejected. Elain dotes on him. Feyre resents him for not doing more to support the family. Nesta hates him for not fighting to find a cure for their mother.

BERON

High Lord of the Autumn Court. His sons plot against him and each other to gain control of his kingdom

LUCIEN

Second-in-command and close friend to Tamlin. Lucien was a member of the Fall Court, but was forced to flee to the Spring Court when his brothers and father threatened his life. Lucien is steadfastly loyal to Tamlin, but he nevertheless has the ability to speak truth to power.

ERIS

Eldest son of Beron, heir to his throne, and former fiancé of Mor. Lucien and Mor both blame him for their past suffering, though he denies responsibility and allies with Rhysand in order to secure his position in the Autumn Court.

Lucien’s mother. Though separated from her son, her love for him has not faded. Her assistance to Feyre in the court Under the Mountain highlights her fair and loving nature.

TAMLIN

The High Lord of the Spring Court and Feyre’s love interest. Like Feyre, Tamlin carries the weight of a duty he never expected or pursued. Though he initially seems beastly, he offers Feyre a level of peace, care, and protection she’s never known. Raised with a father and brothers who were cruel to humans and kept them as slaves, Tamlin stands firm in his opposition to this sort of treatment. He is determined to be kind and fair, showing Feyre and her family extraordinary generosity.

RHYSAND

The High Lord of the Night Court. Beautiful and clever with a penchant for cruelty, Rhysand maintains a great deal of power because he serves Amarantha. Rhysand makes no attempt to hide his hatred of humans. He is a keen manipulator who knows how to play power games in Prythian. Though at first he seems like the novel’s villain, his true motivation is a deep desire to protect his people.

Twins, Feyre’s personal maids in the Night Court. They use their spy skills to prepare her for court interactions.

ALIS

A servant in Tamlin’s manor house assigned to tend to Feyre. Alis has a sharp tongue and does not suffer fools lightly. Originally from the Summer Court, her devotion to her nephews and to Prythian brought her to the Spring Court. This same devotion to the cause compels her to share what she can about the curse, doing her part to help Feyre save Tamlin and Prythian, even when all seems lost.

AMREN

Rhysand’s second-in-command, a mysterious monster in the body of a High Fae, more than five thousand years old. A member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle, Amren hoards jewelry, has a temper, drinks blood, and is able to kill enemies by planting visions in their minds. She is also tiny, beautiful, and kind to Feyre.

CASSIAN

An Illyrian warrior and a member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle as commander of the Night Court’s armies. Cassian becomes Feyre’s personal trainer in hand-to-hand combat. He takes an interest in Nesta and is prepared to give his life to protect his friends.

AZRIEL

An Illyrian warrior, member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle, spymaster. Azriel is in love with Mor. He has scars on his hands from being burned by his sadistic brothers, who imprisoned him as a child. As a shadowsinger, Azriel can hear and feel things others can’t.

MADJA

An experienced and elderly healer who tends to the wounds of Rhysand’s Inner Circle

MORRIGAN

Rhysand’s cousin, a member of his Inner Circle, and third-in-command of the Night Court. Mor lost her virginity to Cassian to prevent herself from being sold off in marriage. Her family abused and abandoned her afterward. Despite her early trauma, she remains warm, irreverent, and cheerful.

KEIR

Mor’s cruel and abusive father and Steward of the Hewn City

JURIAN

A legendary human warrior who was resurrected by the Cauldron and now serves Hybern for private reasons of his own.

DRAKON

Mate of Miryam and co-ruler of Cretea, he is a member of the winged Seraphim race.

MIRYAM

A half-human, half-faerie queen who long ago left Jurian, to whom she was engaged, and fled with her people to the island of Cretea with her mate, Prince Drakon.

HELION

High Lord of the Day Court. Despite his seemingly flippant and flirtatious manner, he is the source of great wisdom.

THESAN

High Lord of the Dawn Court. Charming, refined, and elegant, he hosts the meeting of the High Lords in his glittering palace.

High Lord of the Winter Court. His wife is Viviane.

TARQUIN

High Lord of the Summer Court. Though he is kind, he holds a grudge against Feyre and Rhysand, who tricked him in the past and stole a magical artifact from his palace.

CRESSEIDA

Princess of Adriata and Tarquin’s cousin. Silver-haired and pretty, Cresseida is politically strategic and threatens to inform Tamlin that Feyre is at the Summer Court.

VARIAN

Cresseida’s younger brother, Prince of Adriata, captain of Tarquin’s guard. Handsome and serious, Varian can’t keep his eyes off Amren.

RESSINA

A faerie with pale green skin. She leads a group of artists in The Rainbow, the artists’ quarter of Velaris.

ARANEA

A weaver in Velaris whose partner died after volunteering to fight in the Night Court army during Hybern’s attack on Adriata. She weaves a tapestry that catches Feyre’s eye due to its dark black cloth and striking silver thread.

DEVLON

Leader of the Windhaven Camp, one of several Illyrian military camps. Though he resists Rhysand and Cassian’s attempts at reform, he keeps to his promise to offer combat training to Illyrian females despite his reservations.

EMERIE

A young Illyrian female in the Windhaven Camp. She operates her father’s store after his death, defying traditional gender roles.

GWYN

A priestess with a complicated heritage, descended from a river nymph and a High Fae male. She plays a significant role in uncovering ancient secrets and navigating the political landscape.

MERRILL

Merrill is priestess who works at the library in Velaris. She is the right hand of Clotho and a fiercely demanding scholar

QUEEN VASSA

A blind, wicked creature that lives in a cottage in a forest and has the body of a beautiful woman but a ghoulish face. The Weaver spins human remains into threads and keeps a trove of treasures. Although she can’t see, her other senses are deadly.

THE SURIEL

A strange faerie creature and a member of the Suriel species, this particular Suriel has met Feyre at several points in the past

An immensely powerful and mysterious being whose powers are related to fear and who resides in the pit of the library. He makes a deal with Feyre in exchange for his assistance.

Bellius is an Illyrian warrior and Emerie's cousin.

Koschei is a chthonic immortal being of immense power from another dimension that the Prythian Fae refer to as one of their Old Gods who is secluded "by his little lake on the continent". He is the older brother of Stryga and the Bone Carver, they are Death-gods because their powers allow them to feed on life itself.

Lanthys was an inmate of the Prison.
