TAMLIN

The High Lord of the Spring Court and Feyre's love interest. Like Feyre, Tamlin carries the weight of a duty he never expected or pursued.

LUCIEN

Second-in-command and close friend to Tamlin. Lucien was a member of the Fall Court, but was forced to flee to the Spring Court when his brothers and father threatened his life. Though he has a sarcastic edge and a biting sense of humor, he understands Tamlin’s desperate need to protect Feyre and Prythian and will do anything he can to help.

FERYE ARCHEON

A nineteen-year-old huntress and the story’s protagonist. Feyre shoulders the responsibility of caring for her father and two older sisters due to a promise she made her dying mother. Her determination and dedication to her duty isolate her from others. Like most humans, she’s raised with a distrust and hatred for faeries. Forced to spend time in the faerie realm, she learns the truths behind these misconceptions and comes to understand the power of both romantic and familial love.

RHYSAND

The High Lord of the Night Court. Beautiful and clever with a penchant for cruelty, Rhysand maintains a great deal of power because he serves Amarantha. Rhysand makes no attempt to hide his hatred of humans. He is a keen manipulator who knows how to play power games in Prythian. Though at first he seems like the novel’s villain, his true motivation is a deep desire to protect his people.

AMARANTHA

The High Queen of Prythian who rules from the faerie court Under the Mountain. Her unrivaled hatred of humans and desire to control the land make her relentlessly evil and destructive. Determined to force Tamlin to be her lover, Amarantha eliminates any creature that gets in her way.

ALIS

A servant in Tamlin’s manor house assigned to tend to Feyre. Alis has a sharp tongue and does not suffer fools lightly. Originally from the Summer Court, her devotion to her nephews and to Prythian brought her to the Spring Court. This same devotion to the cause compels her to share what she can about the curse, doing her part to help Feyre save Tamlin and Prythian, even when all seems lost

NESTA

The oldest of Feyre’s sisters. Nesta is portrayed as jealous, greedy, and cruel, often wearing a sneer on her face. She bears a strong resemblance to their mother. Nesta takes the loss of the family fortune the hardest, but behind her judgmental nature and cold exterior lies a deep love for her sisters.

ELAIN

The middle sister of Feyre and Nesta. Elain is kind, but not nearly as clever as Feyre or Nesta. Her gentle, generous, and joyful spirit come not from a lack of understanding, but from a steadfast belief, even in tough times, in a better, more beautiful world.

ARCHERON FATHER

Father to Feyre, Elain, and Nesta. A former merchant who lost the family fortune, he is downtrodden and dejected.

THE SURIEL

A wicked kind of faerie who can be compelled to answer questions when trapped. The Suriel appears as a robed, skeletal figure with white eyes.

Lucien’s mother. Though separated from her son, her love for him has not faded. Her assistance to Feyre in the court Under the Mountain highlights her fair and loving nature.

IANTHE

The youngest High Priestess in three centuries, a High Fae noble, and a childhood friend of Tamlin’s. Ianthe is an advisor in the Spring Court. She wears a blue-gray hood, and her brow is tattooed with the moon’s cycle. Unmarried, she takes many lovers. Feyre sees her as her friend and guide at the Spring Court, but Ianthe also craves power.

MORRIGAN

Rhysand’s cousin, a member of his Inner Circle, and third-in-command of the Night Court. Mor lost her virginity to Cassian to prevent herself from being sold off in marriage. Her family abused and abandoned her afterward. Despite her early trauma, she remains warm, irreverent, and cheerful

AMREN

Rhysand’s second-in-command, a mysterious monster in the body of a High Fae, more than five thousand years old. A member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle, Amren hoards jewelry, has a temper, drinks blood, and is able to kill enemies by planting visions in their minds. She is also tiny, beautiful, and kind to Feyre.

CASSIAN

An Illyrian warrior and a member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle as commander of the Night Court’s armies. Cassian becomes Feyre’s personal trainer in hand-to-hand combat. He takes an interest in Nesta and is prepared to give his life to protect his friends.

AZRIEL

An Illyrian warrior, member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle, spymaster. Azriel is in love with Mor. He has scars on his hands from being burned by his sadistic brothers, who imprisoned him as a child. As a shadowsinger, Azriel can hear and feel things others can’t.

TARQUIN

The High Lord of the Summer Court. Tarquin is handsome and likeable, and wants to make the faerie world more equitable. He is willing to explore an alliance with the Night Court despite the rumors about Rhysand.

CRESSEIDA

Princess of Adriata and Tarquin’s cousin. Silver-haired and pretty, Cresseida is politically strategic and threatens to inform Tamlin that Feyre is at the Summer Court.

VARIAN

Cresseida’s younger brother, Prince of Adriata, captain of Tarquin’s guard. Handsome and serious, Varian can’t keep his eyes off Amren.

Evil king of the island of Hybern. The king rules from a throne of human bones. He is a master manipulator and plans to bring down the Wall to ransack the human realm. He looks rather ordinary, like a handsome forty-year-old of average height, but he is ancient.

JURIAN

A mortal war hero who is resurrected in the Cauldron by the King of Hybern. Jurian is the king’s emissary to the mortal queens and has gone insane after years of watching Amarantha torture people.

A deadly creature who can divine the future, caged in the Prison. Using magic, the Bone Carver appears to Feyre as a boy with violet eyes. Rhysand sees him as Jurian.

THE WEAVER

A blind, wicked creature that lives in a cottage in a forest and has the body of a beautiful woman but a ghoulish face. The Weaver spins human remains into threads and keeps a trove of treasures. Although she can’t see, her other senses are deadly.

High Lord of the Winter Court. His wife is Viviane.

THESAN

High Lord of the Dawn Court. Charming, refined, and elegant, he hosts the meeting of the High Lords in his glittering palace.

BERON

High Lord of the Autumn Court. His sons plot against him and each other to gain control of his kingdom.

ERIS

Eldest son of Beron, heir to his throne, and former fiancé of Mor. Lucien and Mor both blame him for their past suffering, though he denies responsibility and allies with Rhysand in order to secure his position in the Autumn Court.

MIRIYAM

A half-human, half-faerie queen who long ago left Jurian, to whom she was engaged, and fled with her people to the island of Cretea with her mate, Prince Drakon.

DRAKON

Mate of Miryam and co-ruler of Cretea, he is a member of the winged Seraphim race.

Mute priestess who works in the Velaris library. She was brutally victimized by men and sought solace in the library.
